Are Clean, Healthy Arteries the Next Big Thing in Cardiovascular Health
The isolation of chitin-glucan molecules obtained from the fungus Aspergillus Niger has led to several important breakthrough studies creating quite a buzz in the nutraceutical market. Scientists believe that Artinia prevents artery blockage by managing oxidative stress and protecting the system from the damaging effects of modern lifestyles and unhealthy diets. The research team at the Hospital Center of the University of Liege, Department of Diabetology, Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases conducted a 4-week preclinical human study. The control group, consisting of 30 slightly overweight volunteers, was given a dose of 1.5 grams of Artinia, three times a day without any change in dietary habits. 2
The results showed a decrease in blood triglyceride levels and about a 26 percent reduction in the concentration of oxidized-LDL. Researchers believe a combination of pathways stimulated greater lipid catabolism resulting in lower volumes of circulating lipids and a 20 percent reduction in triglyceride concentration when compared to the placebo group. The study showed that the implications of Artinia on cardiovascular health are enormous. A reduced level of oxidized-LDL in the blood results in lower inflammatory reaction in the arteries, thereby limiting the formation of plaque.
